- There are a few specific functions (in C) for network
communication. Perl implements these, and can make it easier for
applications to use networking.
- Perl is not generally used for network servers (for example, Web
or FTP servers) because such servers might be better as pre-compiled.
But Perl is very good for testing, and can get off the ground quickly
for rapid prototyping.

- This sample, adapted
from man perlipc, shows a lot of the basic network functionality.
- Further enhancements would be to fork separate listeners
(so to handle multiple simultaneous connections), open log files, etc.
